Quick question for those of you who have travelled this road before:
When should we send out Ukulele's birth announcements?
Should we wait until after the adoption is finalized (mid February)? Should we go ahead and send now since FirstMom's revocation rights have expired?
Most adoption announcements I have seen have two to three dates on them: (1) birth date; (2) *permanently* joined family date; and sometimes (3) came to the family date. We have (1) and (3), but (2)'s date is not definite yet.
Also, I'm open for suggestions on affordable announcement sites.... most sites I have found charge between $1.65 to $2.50 per announcement. That adds up quickly when you intend on sending out over 100 announcements!

We put birth date, day he came home (TPR was signed) and weight, etc. Shoot me your email address at smash_effect@hotmail.com and I'll email you a .JPG of our announcement. I found one I liked on an announcement website and then designed ours on a (free) online website and had them printed for .19 cents a piece!! We got tons of compliments.
GreenEggs, I have no idea - but I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU. just spilling with happiness for you really. So had to comment.

We used Snap*fish and it was pretty cheap; depends on how fancy you'd like your announcements! There is an option to have them printed (through Snap*fish) on "real paper" that you can write a personal note on if you choose, and even have printed text on the back.
We had Evie's stats, birth date, homecoming date and our projected finalization date. It read like "the adoption will be finalized on October 27th" so that people knew when it would be and would stop asking us :)
Hi, just found your blog on Karen's blog. I love your story! Congratulations, your little girl is beautiful! I can so relate to the things you wrote in your previous post ("Thoughts on a *sick* baby"). I am in the process of adopting my daughter from Foster Care, and after a year, I still find myself wondering when the other shoe is going to drop. I can tell you though, those feelings do decrease, it does get better. If you would like to check out my blog "All About Elizabeth", feel free to email me at
ana1968@sbcglobal.net, and I'll send you an invite.

Check out Tiny prints though they are kind of pricey but very cute.
Congrats again!
I am one of the "no idea" commentators - but I am so excited that you get to THINK about announcments and NOT all that other jazz that used to consume your thoughts!
Congrats again!!
Congratulations!! My favorite announcements are at www.finestationary.com.. I love Blue Mug Designs, plus - they donate a portion of their profits to charity!
We are waiting until finalization although I guess our Christmas cards this year were kind of an announcement as we got a lot of "who is that baby" questions.
Unless things are in the air legally, I wouldn't worry about waiting until finalization.
We only listed the birth date. I made my eldest's announcements and we got our youngest's at Snapfish. They were close to $1 apiece, I think, on heavy cardstock.
Check out "Bella Ella Designs" for adoption specific announcements on Etsy.com
Our adoption was international and so we chose to list her birthdate, birthplace and "into our arms forever" date;
That was the most important date for me- and one that I will always remember. (It was on Father's day!)
Congrats and happy shopping.

Hi! Found your blog through L&F&CA. Congratulations on your beautiful new daughter!!
We adopted twice through China. First time we did our announcements through a friend we met on-line and had them printed at Kinko's. They cost about $1 each but were tasteful, printed on card stock.
Second time around we used a candid photo of my daughter that my husband took just after we cleared Custom's coming home. We found an inexpensive template at Kodak Gallery that said "Just Arrived." It made an adorable announcement for about 20 cents a copy. Plus they were ready very quickly.
We listed birth date and place and the "into our arms" date as well as her new full name.
Maybe you can find an on-line coupon for your announcement? There are many bargains out there right now.
Good luck for an amazing 2009!! You've certainly started it off in the right way.
