Com.cast vs. NFL

May 1 is quickly approaching. We need to decide if we are going to switch to Direc.tTV or some other satelite service prior to that time. Right now we have Com.cast and our status as subscribers is about to come to a screeching halt.

You see, Com.cast carries the NFL Net.work. NFL Net.work would like their channel to be free. However, Com.cast (being the greedy cable monopolist that it is) has been charging for it, and NFL is not happy. Therefore, NFL is yanking their channel come May 1.

GatorMan and I are NOT happy. We are both NFL fans (although different teams), and watch that channel religiously.

So.... come May 1, we will most likely have a new service provider... which means we probably need to scope out new internet service as well (since Com.cast has the monopoly on that in our house). We do not have landline phones, so our internet service will most likely be DSL.

Am I going to miss Com.cast? Decidedly "no." But you may want to ask me again when it's raining.

We've been DirTV subscribers for a decade specifically because of their sports offerings -- DH subscribes to several all-access packages for different sports (we get every NFL game, every baseball game, and some others), and cable and the other satt company didn't offer everything that we end up getting.

I've only ever had DSL, so I find it fine, but the post-cable people say they notice that it's slower.

Cable always seemed more expensive all told, too, but I think it depends a lot on the area.

Enjoy the switch!
